United States & Mexico Border

With Latinx representation increasing in the United States, their political and economic influence is undeniable, yet gross inaccuracies and misperceptions about the largest minority group in America persist on a number of topics, notably around the US-Mexican border. How does U.S. policy concerning the US-Mexican border shape the U.S.’s and Mexico’s/Latin America’s perceptions of each other? What role does the media play in shaping understandings and perceptions about Mexico and people of Mexican heritage living in the United States? What are some of the challenges that policy makers and media influencers face in combatting misunderstandings and misperceptions? What civic efforts are underway to reshape the narrative and why does it matter? How is technology and advances in digital communication affecting how perceptions develop and shift around this often-contentious subject? This week’s episode of The Mike Muse show will take a deep look at the policy and media shapings around the US-Mexican border and what communities are doing to reshape narratives.
